Co-Managing Partner David Kovel Speaks at 22nd Annual Coalition of Civil Advocates Conference

Co-Managing Partner David Kovel spoke at the 22nd annual Coalition of Civil Advocates conference on Friday, November 11, 2022. The event was an informal plaintiff's lawyer convention hosted by the Louisiana-based litigation team at Fishman Haygood.
 
Mr. Kovel discussed his recent representation of a whistleblower client who was awarded nearly $200 million by the whistleblower program of the CFTC. This landmark CFTC whistleblower award is the largest, publicly-announced single whistleblower award arising under the Dodd-Frank whistleblower reward programs (the CFTC and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”)) as well as under other whistleblower programs, including the IRS and the federal and state False Claims Acts.
 
Mr. Kovel's presentation was one of eight that took place on Friday. Additional presentations included a case study on social media and nicotine with Kerry Miller of Fishman Haygood and Palmer Lambert of Pendley, Baudin & Coffin, and a presentation on invasion of privacy and the Vanessa Bryant case with Luis Li of Wilson Sonsini.
 
Mr. Kovel has been recognized as an antitrust and commodities litigation expert and frequently comments on these matters. He has additionally argued significant commodities, antitrust, and whistleblower matters before various appeals courts. Mr. Kovel also has an active pro bono practice, having represented, among others, clients in need of housing referred through the office of pro se litigation in the Southern District of New York, whistleblowers in various governmental settings, clients in foreclosure matters, and a Latino soccer association in its efforts organize and obtain a fair proportion of field time from a municipality.
